Robert Rothery
Captain Rothery has over 20 years of experience in emergency services. Captain Rothery is a leader to the Tully membership and willing to show and teach newer members. Through his years with the Tully Hose Co.#1, he has been very active in firematic races and pushball events. He rose through the ranks to Chief of the department in 2012, and he helped lead the department. Captain Rothery has continued to help facilitate weekly training drills for the volunteer membership. He first resided in Apulia where his family owned and operated The Summit Rest before moving to Tully. He brings vital community connections and networking to the fire department when resources are needed. Captain Rothery has received several commendations throughout his fire career including receiving the Northern Central Volunteer Fireman’s Association’s Firefighter of the Year 2019 Valor Award, Central New York Firefighters Association’s (CNYFA) Certificate of Merit Award, and a New York State Assembly Citation Proclamation for his act of bravery rescuing a victim from a fire in the Village of Tully. He has also received the Onondaga County Volunteer Firefighters Association’s Red Jacket Award.
Outside of Tully, Captain Rothery works for Essex Steel in Cortland, NY, and he brings vital knowledge of building construction to the fire service. He enjoys to spend time with his wife camping, attending NASCAR races and music concerts. Rob’s wife, Cathy, is a firefighter of the Tully Hose Company and a member of the Tully Hose Company Auxiliary/Support Team.
